NEW DELHI, Dec 5: Security forces launched extensive search operations across Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu on Thursday following a bomb threat email targeting the iconic Ajmer Sharif Dargah, Ajmer district collectorate, and the strategic Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant.
Putin Visit Linked in Threat Email
The threatening email, received around noon at the Ajmer collectorate, claimed four RDX-based improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were planted at the Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti shrine, government offices, and the nuclear facility, with detonation allegedly timed to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s ongoing India visit. Superintendent of Police Vandita Rana confirmed immediate alerts to all departments, leading to evacuation and thorough checks.
Multi-Agency Response Mobilized
Teams from the Crime Investigation Department (CID), Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), bomb disposal squads, and canine units deployed rapidly, using metal detectors for systematic sweeps. The dargah complex was cleared, entry halted, and crowds gathered outside cordoned gates under supervision of senior officials including three civic commissioners and nine SHOs. No suspicious objects found so far.
Probe Targets Email Source
Police initiated a technical investigation to trace the threat’s origin amid heightened national security during the Modi-Putin summit. Operations continue at all sites as authorities treat the alert with utmost seriousness despite no explosives detected yet.
