Patna, June 5: The Bihar government has withdrawn the Z-plus security cover provided to RJD chief Lalu Prasad and former chief minister Rabri Devi following a review of security arrangements for VIPs across the state, officials said on Friday.
The state government has also withdrawn the Y-category security cover of Tej Pratap Yadav, chief of the Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD) and elder son of Lalu Prasad.
According to a notification issued late Thursday, Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi will now be provided security by the Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP). The decision was taken after a comprehensive assessment of security requirements for various protected individuals in the state.
Officials said that Z-plus security typically includes a dedicated team of highly trained personnel equipped with advanced weaponry. Under the revised arrangement, the two senior RJD leaders will continue to receive security support, including BSAP house guards, bodyguards from the Patna District Force, and access to a pilot and bulletproof vehicle.
Meanwhile, the Bihar government has retained the Y-plus security cover provided to Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav.
The notification further stated that the existing security arrangements for Misa Bharti, eldest daughter of Lalu Prasad, and Rajshree Yadav, wife of Tejashwi Yadav, will remain unchanged.
