MUMBAI, OCT 7: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Wednesday said India’s traditional values and way of life have an important role to play in ensuring the safety and welfare of society and the wider world.
Addressing a gathering after inaugurating various initiatives at the Gau-Vigyan Anusandhan Kendra in Deolapur, Nagpur district, Bhagwat said people should follow the traditions of Bharat and actively contribute towards the betterment of society.
He was speaking at an event organised to mark the birth centenary year of late Vishwa Hindu Parishad president Ashok Singhal.
Bhagwat said the need of the hour was for people to work collectively so that everyone could lead a fulfilling life.
He stressed that the number of people actively engaged in social and constructive work remains small compared with the size of society, and called for greater public participation in social causes.
According to Bhagwat, there are two ways of remembering people who have done good work — either by simply remembering them or by continuing their work and contributing to society.
He said many people recognise that something needs to be done for society but expect someone else to take responsibility.
“People say they have a job and a family to raise, but expect someone else to do something good for society,” Bhagwat said, emphasising that positive changes are ultimately the result of collective efforts.
He also highlighted the importance of sacrifice and perseverance, saying that people who demonstrate these qualities in their personal lives can inspire others to take difficult paths and work for larger social goals.
Citing the examples of Moropant Pinglay and Ashok Singhal, Bhagwat said both leaders dedicated their lives to larger causes rather than pursuing personal gains and eventually earned widespread respect.
He said people who initiate meaningful work are often remembered when their efforts produce positive results in the future.
According to Bhagwat, carrying forward the good work started by such individuals is the most meaningful way of paying tribute to their contribution to society.
