Katra, Jul 12: A Bangladeshi man was detained on Saturday in Katra, Reasi district, for allegedly entering Indian territory without valid travel documents, according to police.
Identified as Fahim Ahmed, the individual was spotted acting suspiciously by police officers conducting routine checks near Asia Chowk, a location known as the base camp for pilgrims visiting the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. His behavior drew attention when he tried to evade police presence but was eventually caught.
Authorities said Ahmed was found carrying a Bangladeshi identity card but failed to produce a visa, passport, or any legal documents permitting his stay in India. Preliminary findings suggest he crossed into Indian territory using unauthorised routes, in clear violation of immigration rules.
An FIR has been registered under the Foreigners Act at Katra Police Station. Investigators are now working to determine the motive behind his illegal entry and whether he has any connections within the country.
Senior Superintendent of Police Reasi, Paramvir Singh, commended the officers involved for their prompt response. He reaffirmed the department’s dedication to maintaining public safety and urged residents to immediately report any suspicious individuals or activities to nearby police stations.
