BUKAVU, Congo, Sep 27: At least 12 people were killed and dozens remained missing after a vessel carrying traders capsized in Lake Kivu in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, authorities said on Sunday.
The vessel was carrying more than 50 people when it overturned late Saturday in Idjwi territory in South Kivu province, according to Felix Habiragi, chief of Kisheke village near the accident site.
Around 15 people have been rescued so far, Habiragi said.
The cause of the accident was not immediately known. Rescue efforts were continuing as authorities searched the lake for those still missing.
