Leh, Feb 12: To promote scientific education and gender equality, the Fire and Fury Corps commemorated the International Day of Women and Girls in Science by organising a series of awareness and outreach programmes across remote villages of Ladakh, focusing on empowering women and young girls through science education.
As part of the celebrations, awareness programmes were conducted for community members highlighting the necessity and importance of science education for women in today’s rapidly evolving world. The initiatives aimed to address gender gaps in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and encourage greater participation of women in scientific and technological fields.
Outreach activities were carried out at schools in Chushul and Tsaga villages, where Army personnel and educators interacted with students, particularly young girls, motivating them to pursue higher education and careers in science and technology. The sessions focused on building confidence, awareness about career opportunities and the importance of innovation and research in national development.
A special lecture on the role of women in science and technology was organised at Nyoma Community Hall. The session highlighted the contributions of women scientists globally and nationally, while emphasising themes of innovation, equal opportunity and empowerment. The lecture also encouraged young girls to break traditional barriers and pursue careers in scientific fields.
Further strengthening the outreach effort, motivational speakers from Team Stringmo delivered inspiring lectures in Thasgam and Hanuyokma villages. The speakers highlighted the achievements and contributions of women scientists and innovators, encouraging young girls to believe in their potential and actively pursue academic and professional opportunities in science and technology.
Community members expressed heartfelt gratitude towards the Indian Army for its continuous engagement with local communities through educational and developmental initiatives. Programmes such as Ladakh Ignited Minds were especially appreciated for inspiring students and nurturing scientific curiosity among the youth of the region.
The initiative reflects the continued commitment of the Fire and Fury Corps towards community development, education and empowerment, alongside its primary role of safeguarding the nation’s borders, reinforcing the importance of inclusive growth and knowledge-based progress in remote high-altitude regions.
