NUBRA: In a continued effort to support remote border communities, the Siachen-based veterinary team of the Indian Army today organised a dedicated Veterinary Camp under Operation Sadbhavna at Shyok village in Nubra Valley here.
The initiative aimed at providing quality veterinary healthcare services to livestock owners in the region, where animal husbandry forms the backbone of rural livelihoods. Professional veterinary officers and support staff examined and treated more than 200 animals during the camp, including cattle and goats, ensuring timely medical intervention and preventive care.
Villagers turned up in significant numbers, bringing their livestock for health check-ups, vaccinations, and treatment of common ailments. Besides medical care, the veterinary experts also offered practical guidance on improved animal management practices, disease prevention, nutrition, and hygiene. The awareness component of the camp was particularly appreciated by local residents, who rely heavily on livestock for milk production, meat, and supplementary income.
The initiative was part of the Army’s broader outreach efforts under Operation Sadbhavna, which focuses on community welfare and strengthening civil-military relations in far-flung and high-altitude areas of Ladakh. By addressing veterinary needs in remote villages like Shyok, the Army continues to contribute not only to animal health but also to the economic stability of local families.
Residents expressed gratitude for the timely assistance, noting that access to specialised veterinary care in such isolated terrain is often limited. The camp reinforced the bond between security forces and the local population, reflecting a collaborative spirit aimed at overall development and well-being in the border region.
The Army reiterated its commitment to conducting similar welfare initiatives in the future to ensure sustained support for the people of Nubra Valley.
