Army Chief Warns Pakistan Over Terrorism, Reiterates Tough Stand on Security

NEW DELHI, May 16 : Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Saturday issued a strong warning to Pakistan, saying that if it continues to support and harbour terrorism against India, it must decide whether it wants to remain “part of geography or history.”

Speaking at an interactive session at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi, Gen Dwivedi was asked about India’s possible response if situations similar to Operation Sindoor were to arise again.

He reiterated India’s firm stance against cross-border terrorism, stating that Pakistan would be held accountable if hostile activities continued.

“If you have heard me earlier, what I have said… that Pakistan, if it continues to harbour terrorists and operate against India, then they have to decide whether they want to be part of geography or history or not,” the Army Chief said.

His remarks came during the ‘Sena Samwad’ event, shortly after the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor was observed by the country and the armed forces.

Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 last year in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, during which Indian forces carried out precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).

Following the strikes, Pakistan attempted retaliatory action, leading to further counter-offensives by India under the same operation. The conflict between the two sides, which lasted nearly 88 hours, ended after a mutual understanding was reached on May 10.
