NAGOYA, Sept 26: Indian squash players delivered strong performances at the Asian Games on Saturday, with Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh advancing to their respective singles finals.
Teenager Anahat Singh pulled off a major upset by defeating world No. 6 Satomi Watanabe of Japan 3-2 in the women’s singles semifinal to book her place in the gold medal match.
The 18-year-old world junior champion made a remarkable comeback after trailing 0-2, eventually winning the thrilling contest 9-11, 11-13, 12-10, 11-6, 11-3.
The victory also avenged Anahat’s defeat against Watanabe in another five-game encounter earlier this year.
Abhay Singh also secured his place in the men’s singles final, keeping India’s hopes of winning squash gold medals at the Games alive.
