LEH: Administrative Secretary, Social and Tribal Welfare Department, Shashanka Ala on Wednesday announced renewed efforts to expand access to education, training and employment for children and persons with disabilities in Ladakh, asserting that every child deserves a future built on confidence and independence.
Ala spent time interacting with young participants at an Assessment Camp-cum-Pre-Event Activity in Leh, listening to their ambitions and engaging with their parents and caregivers on how government support can better address daily challenges and growth needs. She called for a compassionate and informed approach that enables children with disabilities to learn, develop skills and pursue fulfilling livelihoods.
Addressing the gathering ahead of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, she reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to inclusive workplaces, stronger collaboration with NGOs and the establishment of lasting support systems aimed at empowering persons with disabilities across the region.
The event, organised by the District Social Welfare Office in partnership with the All Ladakh Guesthouse and Hotel Association, Rural Self Employment Training Institute and other organisations, drew participation from agencies working in hospitality, self-employment and skill development. Officials and industry representatives provided assessments, counselling and guidance on employment avenues and small business opportunities.
Director, Social and Tribal Welfare Department, Kunzes Angmo; District Social Welfare Officer, Mohd Safdar Bhat; along with representatives from PAGIR, Munsel Society and other civil society groups attended the camp, highlighting sustained administrative focus on accessibility and inclusion for persons with disabilities in the Union Territory.
