Chandigarh, Oct 4: Punjab Police have busted an alleged illegal arms and explosives supply network in Amritsar, recovering an AK-47 rifle, two hand grenades, a magazine and live cartridges from a person, officials said.
Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said the recovery was made by Amritsar Rural Police during an operation against the suspected arms network.
Preliminary investigation has indicated that the accused was allegedly in contact with foreign-based smugglers and was involved in procuring illegal weapons, the DGP said in a post on X.
A case has been registered at Gharinda police station in Amritsar under relevant provisions of the Arms Act and the Explosive Substances Act.
Further investigation is underway to identify other members of the network and establish its backward and forward linkages, officials said.
