Jammu, Jul 17: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, during his visit to AIIMS Jammu in Samba, lauded the institution’s rapid development and said it may soon rank among the best of the 23 AIIMS across India. He emphasized that AIIMS Jammu has already started attracting patients not only from Jammu and Kashmir but also from neighboring states.
Addressing media personnel, Abdullah noted, “If we compare with the 22 other AIIMS in the country, perhaps AIIMS Jammu will be considered among the finest. Even with the challenging travel conditions on the current highway, patients are choosing to come here.”
He highlighted that the upcoming Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway will significantly boost accessibility, further increasing patient inflow.
During his inspection of the hospital’s infrastructure and services, the chief minister expressed deep satisfaction over the institution’s remarkable progress in a short span. He was accompanied by his adviser, Nasir Aslam Wani, and met with AIIMS management, students, and staff.
Abdullah praised the vision and execution behind AIIMS Jammu, calling it “a symbol of will, excellence, and modern healthcare.” He remarked that the institute has already become a vital part of India’s premier healthcare network and hoped it would serve as a model for other institutions across the Union Territory.
He also released the AIIMS Jammu Manual of Disaster Management, appreciating the forward-thinking approach of the institute. “We sincerely hope never to face a situation that requires the use of this manual. Yet, in the interest of preparedness, it is better to have and not need than to need and not have. Such forward-thinking initiatives by institutions like AIIMS are commendable,” he said.
Wani also addressed the gathering and congratulated AIIMS Jammu for its impressive infrastructure, lush green campus and emergence as a hub of medical excellence.
He appreciated the hospital’s patient-friendly registration process and the quality of its treatment facilities.

He said that patient feedback indicates that 82 per cent of discharged patients are highly satisfied, with another 17 per cent satisfied with the services provided. He also outlined several key statistics demonstrating the hospital’s growing capabilities. Earlier, the chief minister toured various sections of the campus, including diagnostic labs, testing facilities, in-patient wards and high-tech academic classrooms, taking stock of infrastructure and operational readiness.
