KARGIL : In an effort to bridge the gap between traditional craftsmanship and emerging technologies, the State Project Management Unit (SPMU) under the PM Vishwakarma Scheme on Saturday conducted an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based Capacity Building and Awareness Training Programme for beneficiaries in collaboration with the District Industries Centre (DIC), Kargil.
More than 100 beneficiaries representing a range of traditional trades and crafts from across Kargil district participated in the programme, which was organised at the Conference Hall of DIC Kargil. The initiative was aimed at enhancing digital literacy and promoting the adoption of technology among artisans in line with the broader objectives of Digital India and the IndiaAI mission.
The training focused on practical applications of Artificial Intelligence that could assist artisans and craftspeople in expanding their businesses, improving productivity and strengthening market access. Resource persons Khushbu Joshi from SPMU PM Vishwakarma and Lobzang Lungtok, Industries Promotion Officer at DIC Kargil, familiarised participants with AI-powered tools and demonstrated how technology can support business planning, product promotion, customer engagement and information access.
A hands-on session on widely used AI platforms, including ChatGPT and Gemini, enabled participants to gain practical exposure to digital tools relevant to their occupations. The training also covered voice-assisted AI features, image-recognition technologies, content-generation tools and other business applications tailored to artisans, tailors and craftspeople covered under the PM Vishwakarma Scheme.
The resource persons also highlighted the importance of responsible technology use, advising participants against sharing sensitive personal information, banking details, passwords, OTPs or confidential data on digital platforms.
The programme concluded with an interactive session during which beneficiaries discussed the potential of AI in their respective trades and sought clarification on various aspects of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme. Participants expressed optimism that digital tools could help improve business visibility, strengthen customer outreach and create new livelihood opportunities.
