New Delhi, May 31: Admiral Krishna Swaminathan on Sunday assumed office as the Chief of the Naval Staff, succeeding Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, who retired from service.
Prior to his appointment, Admiral Swaminathan served as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command.
Addressing reporters after taking charge, the new Navy chief underscored the importance of maintaining a high level of preparedness amid an increasingly complex regional maritime security environment.
“The Indian Navy remains vigilant in safeguarding national interests and continues to be actively deployed in a security landscape that is challenging, unpredictable and evolving,” he said.
Admiral Swaminathan stated that ensuring the Navy’s operational readiness and combat effectiveness would be his foremost priority to protect India’s security and economic interests.
Highlighting the force’s modernization efforts, he said the Navy is progressing steadily on the path of capability enhancement and technological advancement.
“It will be my endeavour to sustain the growth momentum of the Navy, consolidate ongoing programmes, expand them where necessary, and strengthen our operational capabilities through the induction of niche and emerging technologies,” he said.
His appointment comes at a time when regional maritime dynamics are witnessing rapid changes, placing greater emphasis on naval preparedness and strategic capabilities.
