Kargil, Apr 10 : In an effort to deepen administrative outreach in remote areas, the district administration organised a Khidmat-e-Awaam programme at Shilekchey village under the ongoing ‘Prashasan Gaon Ki Ore’ initiative, with officials directly engaging residents and addressing several grievances on the spot.
The day-long programme was led by Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Kargil, Jahangir Akhoon, and was attended by Councillor Poyen Mohd Amin, Block Development Officer Kargil, along with officials from multiple departments including Power Development, Rural Development, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sheep and Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Cooperative, Horticulture, Agriculture, and representatives of banking institutions.
Addressing the gathering in the opening session, the ACR outlined the objectives of the initiative, stating that it was launched on the directions of the Chief Secretary of the Union Territory of Ladakh to facilitate direct interaction between the administration and the public. He said that issues requiring immediate attention would be resolved at the venue, while others needing intervention at higher levels would be forwarded to the concerned authorities.
Councillor Poyen expressed appreciation for the presence of officials in the village, noting that such outreach efforts enable residents to present their concerns without having to travel long distances and are likely to improve responsiveness in service delivery.
Officials from various departments also briefed villagers about ongoing welfare schemes, urging eligible beneficiaries to avail themselves of government support and services.
During the interaction, residents from Shilekchey as well as adjoining areas, including Hundurman Brok, raised a range of concerns. These included demands for improved road connectivity, maintenance and expansion of irrigation channels, upgradation of school and sports facilities, realignment of electric poles, augmentation of drinking water supply under the Jal Jeevan Mission, and issues related to agricultural land.
Following the public interaction, the ACR, accompanied by departmental officers, conducted site visits in Shilekchey and Hundurman to assess the concerns raised by residents. Directions were issued to officials for prioritised redressal of identified issues.
The evening session, termed “Sham-e-Awaam”, saw further participation from villagers, with discussions centred on future development plans and the need to maintain sanitation and environmental hygiene in the area.
Residents welcomed the initiative, observing that such programmes help bridge the gap between the administration and the public while encouraging community participation in local planning and development.
