Kargil, Jan 07: Calling road safety a shared responsibility of drivers, authorities and citizens alike, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil Imteeaz Kacho on Tuesday urged the public to adopt disciplined driving habits and make wider use of public transport. He was speaking at a road safety awareness programme organised at the Bus Stand, Kargil, as part of the ongoing Road Safety Week.
The programme was organised by the Truck Union Kargil and saw participation from the district administration, transport department officials, traffic police, drivers and members of the general public.
ADC Kacho, who attended the event as Chief Guest, appreciated the Truck Union for choosing a busy public space to spread awareness on traffic discipline. He asked drivers to take the lead in promoting safe road behaviour and to guide fellow drivers through their conduct on roads.
He said that road safety depends on four main areas — education, enforcement, engineering and emergency care — and added that the district administration is working on each of these aspects to reduce accidents and improve travel safety in the district.
The ADC also appealed to residents to rely more on public transport, suggesting that Saturdays be observed as a day to consciously use shared transport. He said such practices should become part of daily life rather than remain limited to campaigns.
A street play by RanThaG highlighting the risks of careless driving and the value of following traffic rules was also presented during the programme and received a positive response from the audience.
Earlier, DySP Traffic, ARTO Kargil and other officials spoke about traffic management, enforcement drives and the importance of following road safety rules. They urged both drivers and pedestrians to act responsibly and contribute to safer roads.
