LEH: AAM-Primary Health Centre (PHC) Sakti on Tuesday observed the 10th anniversary of the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) by organising a special antenatal care and awareness session aimed at promoting safe motherhood and strengthening maternal healthcare services.
The programme was conducted under the supervision of Medical Officers Dr. Chesfida and Dr. Jigmet Wangchuk, with active participation from the PHC staff.
As part of the special PMSMA session, nine pregnant women underwent comprehensive antenatal check-ups, including clinical examinations, screening for high-risk pregnancies, laboratory investigations and monitoring of vital health parameters. Essential medicines were also provided in accordance with government guidelines.
Health professionals conducted an awareness session focusing on the importance of regular antenatal care, institutional deliveries, maternal nutrition, birth preparedness and the early identification of high-risk pregnancies. Participants were also informed about the benefits and services available under PMSMA and other government maternal health programmes.
Officials said the initiative was aimed at enhancing awareness among expectant mothers and encouraging timely utilisation of healthcare services to ensure safer pregnancy outcomes for both mother and child.
To mark the occasion and promote maternal nutrition, the beneficiaries were provided milk, fruits and eggs following the health awareness session.
The programme concluded with health officials reiterating their commitment to strengthening maternal healthcare services and advancing the objectives of safe motherhood through regular PMSMA activities, community outreach and awareness programmes.
The Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan seeks to provide assured, comprehensive and quality antenatal care to pregnant women, particularly through the early detection and management of high-risk pregnancies.
