Srinagar, October 21: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday paid solemn tribute to police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day, praising their courage, dedication and patriotism.

In his message, the Lieutenant Governor said the sacrifices of police martyrs would continue to inspire efforts to strengthen peace, unity and security across Jammu and Kashmir and the country.

Sinha expressed heartfelt condolences and gratitude to the families of the fallen personnel, emphasising that the nation has a responsibility to ensure their welfare, dignity and continued support.

He assured the Jammu and Kashmir Police fraternity that every possible effort would be made to provide assistance and improve the well-being of martyrs’ families.

The Lieutenant Governor highlighted the distinguished service of the Jammu and Kashmir Police in maintaining law and order, combating terrorism, assisting citizens during emergencies and responding to natural disasters, often under challenging circumstances.

He noted that thousands of police personnel had sacrificed their lives in the fight against terrorism, adding that their courage and commitment had become a source of inspiration for police forces across the country.

Sinha also said that the police uniform symbolises service, responsibility and sacrifice, and that the true purpose of policing lies in protecting citizens, ensuring justice and standing with society during times of crisis.

Referring to the country’s security challenges, he said the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Indian Army and Central Armed Police Forces had played a crucial role in safeguarding national security and territorial integrity.

The Lieutenant Governor stressed that peace, stability and development in Jammu and Kashmir were essential to India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation. He called upon citizens to uphold unity, communal harmony and mutual trust while remaining alert to attempts to disturb peace.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to eliminating terrorism, Sinha warned those supporting terrorist activities that they would be identified and dealt with in accordance with the law.

He also underlined the need to strengthen efforts against drug trafficking and narco-terrorism, while prioritising the protection of women, children and vulnerable sections of society.

The Lieutenant Governor called for regular reviews of mechanisms to prevent crimes against women and children, protect vulnerable communities and ensure timely justice for victims.

Concluding his message, Sinha commended personnel of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Indian Army and the Central Armed Police Forces for their courage, professionalism and dedication, wishing them safety and success in their missions.
