Srinagar, October 16: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Ward Officer of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) in Safakadal for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 from a resident to allow minor renovation work at his house to continue.

According to an official CBI press release issued on October 16, the agency registered a case on October 15 following a complaint against the accused officer.

The complainant alleged that the Ward Officer had demanded ₹10,000 in exchange for permitting the continuation of minor renovation work at his residential property.

Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap on October 15 and allegedly caught the officer red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount.

The accused was subsequently arrested in connection with the case.

The CBI said further investigation is underway to establish the facts and examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged bribery incident.

Meanwhile, the agency reiterated its commitment to taking action against corruption and urged citizens in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh to report instances of bribery or demands for illegal gratification by public servants.

According to the press release, complaints can be submitted to the CBI Anti-Corruption Branch at Guest House No. 6, near MLA Hostel, M.A. Road, Srinagar.

Citizens can also contact the agency at 9419900977 or email hobac [email protected] to report corruption-related complaints or provide relevant information.

The investigation remains ongoing.
