Srinagar, October 16 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said that the IAS officer allegedly seen verbally abusing a junior JKAS officer would have been attached to the General Administration Department (GAD) pending an inquiry if Jammu and Kashmir had been a state.
In a fresh post on social media, Omar stressed that authorities responsible for exercising control over IAS officers must set an example and ensure that allegations of abusive and threatening behaviour are not ignored.
“Had J&K been a state, the IAS officer seen abusing a young JKAS officer would have been attached to the General Administration Department pending an inquiry into his conduct,” the Chief Minister said.
He further stated that, as a Union Territory, Jammu and Kashmir expects the authorities exercising control over IAS officers to take appropriate action and ensure that such allegations are addressed seriously.
The Chief Minister’s remarks come amid a controversy surrounding a purported video that allegedly shows a senior IAS officer verbally abusing a woman JKAS officer during an official meeting.
Omar Abdullah’s statement has brought renewed attention to administrative accountability and the powers available to the elected government in Jammu and Kashmir under its Union Territory status.
