GURUGRAM, OCT 7: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday described Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25-year journey as Chief Minister and Prime Minister as a “golden and epoch-making” chapter in the history of Indian democracy.
Addressing the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sabha – Seva Jyoti Yatra in Gurugram, Shah said October 7 marked a significant milestone, noting that Modi had completed 25 continuous years at the helm of government.
“October 7 marks a golden and epoch-making day in the history of Indian democracy,” Shah said, adding that Modi, who came from a humble background, had reached the highest levels of public service through his abilities and with the support of millions of people.
Shah said the Seva Jyoti Yatra was being organised across districts throughout the country to commemorate Modi’s 25-year journey in public life.
He said a group of young people would carry the Seva Jyoti torch and install it at an intersection near the venue. Shah appealed to people to participate in the yatra in large numbers.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and several other leaders attended the programme.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi paid tribute to grassroots workers and swayamsevaks across the country, acknowledging their contribution to public service and the preservation of India’s cultural traditions.
“I have never felt that I am alone. There are countless swayamsevaks who are guardians of India’s cultural soul, with one sole purpose: to serve Bharat,” Modi said.
He said the guiding spirit of these workers was reflected in the belief that they were “sevaks” and “servants of humanity”, and paid tribute to swayamsevaks and party workers for their continued dedication to the nation.
Modi completed 25 years as head of government on Wednesday. His journey began on October 7, 2001, when he took oath as Gujarat Chief Minister. He later became Prime Minister in 2014 and has since served three consecutive terms in the post.
