Kargil, Apr 16: The Apricot Blossom Festival 2026 concluded at Goma Minjee in Kargil district on Wednesday, drawing a large turnout of domestic and international tourists and underscoring the region’s growing profile as a spring tourism destination.

Organised by the Department of Tourism as part of a series of events across the Union Territory of Ladakh, the closing ceremony brought together visitors, local residents, and tourism stakeholders amid orchards in full bloom. The event blended natural landscapes with cultural expression, offering a glimpse into the region’s seasonal charm and traditional heritage.

A steady influx of tourists marked the final day, with visitors engaging in curated activities such as guided village walks, heritage trails, and cycling tours through blossoming apricot orchards. Designated viewing points and orchard picnics emerged as focal attractions, particularly for photographers seeking to capture the short-lived bloom.

Stalls set up at the venue showcased local handloom and handicraft products alongside apricot-based food items and traditional cuisine, providing exposure to local artisans and small entrepreneurs. Cultural storytelling sessions led by village elders offered insights into regional folklore and lifestyle, while cooking demonstrations and tasting sessions added an interactive element to the programme.

Soft adventure activities, including nature walks and short treks, complemented the day’s schedule, catering to visitors with varied interests. Tourists were also guided to nearby attractions to enhance their overall experience of the district.

Assistant Director Tourism, Kargil, Muhammad Ali Tak, along with other officials, interacted with tourists, travel trade representatives, and digital content creators during the event. They highlighted the need to promote Ladakh’s apricot blossom season across wider platforms and to position Kargil as a destination offering immersive and authentic experiences during spring.

Visitors expressed appreciation for the landscape and hospitality, noting the blend of scenic beauty and community participation that defined the festival atmosphere.

The Tourism Department acknowledged the support of stakeholders, including travel trade associations and volunteers, who were felicitated for their role in ensuring smooth conduct of the event.

With the conclusion of festivities at Goma Minjee, officials said the festival reflects a broader effort to strengthen tourism in Ladakh by aligning natural attractions with community-led initiatives, positioning Kargil as an emerging draw during the spring season.
