Kargil, Apr 14: In a concerted push to strengthen grassroots health and nutrition awareness, Poshan Pakhwada was observed at the Anganwadi Centre in Choposa Poyen, drawing participation from frontline health workers, ICDS functionaries and local families.
Held under the theme of growth monitoring and health check-ups, the programme underscored the continuing efforts of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) framework in ensuring early detection of nutritional deficiencies among children.
Officials said that children enrolled at the centre underwent systematic growth assessments, while Auxiliary Nurse Midwives conducted routine health examinations to evaluate their overall well-being. The exercise aimed to reinforce preventive healthcare practices at the village level.
Supervisors and Anganwadi Workers used the occasion to engage directly with parents, emphasising the importance of periodic health check-ups, balanced diets and informed child care practices. The outreach also included practical demonstrations, with locally available nutritious foods showcased to promote sustainable dietary habits rooted in regional traditions.
The initiative reflected a broader emphasis on community participation, with parents encouraged to take an active role in monitoring the health indicators of their children. Functionaries noted that such engagement remains central to improving long-term nutrition outcomes for both children and women in remote areas of Kargil.
The observance forms part of the nationwide Poshan Pakhwada campaign, which seeks to deepen awareness and drive behavioural change around nutrition through localised interventions.
