Leh, Mar 25: Asserting that every visitor to Ladakh must depart with a positive and lasting impression, Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Tuesday stressed the need for meticulous planning and high standards of public facilities while reviewing preparations at Sindhu Ghat for the forthcoming Sindhu Mahakumbh.
During his inspection of the venue, the Lieutenant Governor emphasised that the event presents an opportunity to showcase Ladakh’s distinct identity and hospitality. He underlined that the arrangements must reflect both efficiency and sensitivity to the region’s natural and cultural setting.
Saxena directed the concerned departments to undertake a comprehensive upgrade of the ghat and adjoining areas. The directions included removal of debris, restoration of the existing structure, and systematic improvement of the riverfront through landscaping measures. He also called for the improvement of approach roads to ensure smooth access for pilgrims and tourists.
With a focus on visual appeal, the Lieutenant Governor suggested incorporating decorative elements such as large pots with local flowers along the access routes. He further instructed that existing shrubs be properly trimmed and footpaths developed wherever feasible to facilitate safe and convenient movement.
Highlighting the importance of essential services, Saxena stressed the need for adequate lighting, sanitation facilities, and availability of safe drinking water. He also directed that riverbanks be thoroughly cleaned to maintain environmental standards during the event.
The Lieutenant Governor reiterated that Ladakh’s growing tourism profile must be supported by infrastructure that is both efficient and environmentally responsible. He observed that sustained attention to civic amenities and ecological preservation would not only benefit visitors but also enhance the quality of life for local residents.
Calling for strict supervision of the ongoing works, Saxena emphasised adherence to quality standards and timely execution. He maintained that all developmental efforts must remain aligned with the preservation of Ladakh’s heritage and ecological balance.
Senior officials present during the visit included Director General of Police Mukesh Singh, Administrative Secretaries Sanjit Rodrigues and Shashanka Ala, Deputy Commissioner Leh Romil Singh Donk, along with other officers associated with the preparations.
The upcoming Sindhu Mahakumbh is expected to attract a large number of visitors, placing renewed focus on Leh as a centre for cultural and tourism activities in Ladakh.
