Leh, Mar 16: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), Union Territory of Ladakh, will organise the District/State-level ASMITA League 2026 in Ice Hockey and Speed Skating at the Ice Hockey Rink of the NDS Sports Complex in Leh from March 24 to March 27.

According to an official spokesperson from the Office of the District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Leh, the league is being conducted exclusively for women athletes, with the objective of providing a structured platform for participation in winter sports disciplines across the Union Territory.

The competition is being organised under the direction of the Joint Director, Youth Services and Sports, UT Ladakh, under the auspices of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and in collaboration with the Ice Hockey Association of Ladakh.

Officials stated that women’s Ice Hockey teams and individual Speed Skating athletes from different parts of Ladakh have been invited to take part in the league. Interested players and teams have been asked to complete their registrations with the District Youth Services and Sports Offices in Leh or Kargil on or before March 19, 2026, during office hours.

Authorities have made it clear that no entries will be accepted after the stipulated deadline.

As per the guidelines issued in the circular, the maximum team strength for Ice Hockey has been fixed at 24 members, including 20 players along with a coach and a manager, while the minimum team composition will be 19 members, comprising 15 players, a coach and a manager.

The competition is open to women athletes aged 14 years and above.

The department has also urged wider dissemination of the information through media outlets and public notices to ensure participation from women athletes across the Union Territory. Officials expressed hope that the league will encourage greater involvement of women in winter sports disciplines and provide them with opportunities to compete in an organised competitive environment.
