Leh, Jan 10 : The Directorate of Industries and Commerce, Union Territory of Ladakh, on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Firgun Social Initiative Foundation to support the implementation of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme in the districts of Leh and Kargil.

The non-financial MoU was signed by Mohd Ashraf Bhatt, JKAS, Director, Industries and Commerce, UT Ladakh, in the presence of Shafiq Ahmad, JKAS, General Manager, District Industries Centre Kargil. The collaboration was facilitated by the State Level Project Management Unit of PM Vishwakarma Ladakh.

The agreement aims to strengthen capacity building efforts for artisans and craftsmen by enhancing their entrepreneurial, financial and digital skills through structured training programmes. It also seeks to support mobilisation, identification and formation of trade-based business clusters under the PM Vishwakarma Scheme.

As part of the collaboration, Firgun Social Initiative Foundation will conduct free and voluntary workshops focusing on digital marketing, e-commerce, bookkeeping and business management. The foundation will also facilitate certification of participants in coordination with the MSME Technology Centre, Greater Noida, to improve employability and professional recognition of trained artisans.

The Directorate of Industries and Commerce will extend coordination and mobilisation support for the initiative without any financial involvement. Officials stated that the partnership is expected to improve outreach and strengthen skill development initiatives under the PM Vishwakarma Scheme, enabling artisans in Ladakh to better access market opportunities and modern business practices.
