Kargil Jan 08: The district administration tightened its ongoing anti encroachment and traffic enforcement campaign in Kargil town on Monday, clearing stretches of roadway and taking firm action against violators from Iqbal Bridge to the Petrol Pump via Andoh. The operation was held under clear directions of the Deputy Commissioner Kargil, signalling that the administration will not allow any occupation of public land or misuse of road space.

A coordinated team led by the Tehsildar and Naib Tehsildar Kargil with the Station House Officer Kargil, Municipal Committee staff and Traffic Police moved along the corridor and removed illegal extensions and barriers set up on the road and footpaths. Officials said a structure raised unlawfully on the carriageway was demolished on site to reclaim the stretch for public use and uninterrupted traffic.

The Traffic Police coupled the clearance with strict checks under District Road Safety Month. Officers issued compound challans along with sticker challans for rule violations and lifted a vehicle parked carelessly on the roadside. Police made it clear that such steps will continue until discipline returns to the town’s roads.

The administration warned shopkeepers and residents against spreading business fronts or private assets onto public space. It said all citizens are expected to honour the law and support free movement on the roads. Authorities reaffirmed that further drives are planned and that no leniency will be shown where public safety and the smooth flow of traffic are at stake.
