Jammu, Dec 23: In a pioneering crackdown, Northern Railway’s Jammu Division has uncovered the first instances of fake Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) tickets generated using Artificial Intelligence (AI), highlighting emerging digital threats to rail travel.
The detections occurred during a week-long special verification drive launched across all stations in the division, prompted by a similar AI-forged ticket case in Jaipur Division of North Western Railway.
From December 15 to 21, teams under Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal inspected over 2,200 UTS unreserved tickets, employing unique ID checks and QR code scanning to identify anomalies. Four cases of AI-crafted fakes were confirmed, with penalties imposed on violators.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal emphasized the initiative’s role in curbing digital fraud, protecting genuine passengers, and thwarting unauthorized agents exploiting AI technology. Future drives are planned to sustain vigilance.
Authorities urged travelers to avoid tampering with tickets via AI or other digital methods, stressing that such offenses carry strict penalties. Passengers must use valid tickets for safe, compliant journeys, reinforcing railway efforts to maintain system integrity amid technological misuse.
