JAMMU, Dec 5: Northern Railways announced a timely relief measure for stranded passengers by attaching an additional 3rd AC coach with 72 seats to the Jammu-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, effective from tonight for the next seven days, amid widespread IndiGo flight disruptions.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal highlighted the decision as a proactive step to ease passenger inconvenience caused by the airline’s operational meltdown. “In the wake of ongoing flight disruptions, Indian Railways has augmented one 3rd AC coach in the Jammu-New Delhi Rajdhani for the next seven days beginning tonight (December 5),” Singhal stated, urging affected travelers to book seats in the extra coach for comfortable connectivity.
Reports confirm at least 11 IndiGo flights cancelled from Jammu airport, leaving hundreds uncertain and sparking protests over the carrier’s inadequate response to passenger distress calls. Chaos gripped the terminal as families and business travelers voiced frustration over stranded schedules and lack of alternatives.
Passengers hit by the cancellations can immediately access the additional coach by booking through standard railway channels, providing a reliable alternative to air travel amid the crisis. This augmentation underscores Indian Railways’ role in bridging critical connectivity gaps during aviation emergencies, particularly on the vital Jammu-Delhi corridor.
