Kargil, Oct 09: The District Health Society, Kargil, launched the “Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 3.0” on Thursday at the Tourist Facilitation Centre, Biamathang, aiming to raise awareness among youth about the harmful effects of tobacco and promote a tobacco-free society.

The event commenced with a Tobacco Free Youth Pledge, followed by a yoga session to encourage physical and mental well-being among participants. Students from various schools joined officials from the Food and Sports Departments in attending the programme.

Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Rakesh Kumar, emphasized that the campaign seeks to empower young people to spread awareness about the dangers of tobacco and ensure the message of a “Tobacco Free Kargil” reaches every corner of the district through continuous, student-led initiatives.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Imteeaz Kacho addressed the risks posed by drug and tobacco addiction, which he said can derail lives and careers. He appreciated the efforts of the District Health Society and collaborating departments in organizing the campaign, and underscored the importance of engaging youth in productive activities such as yoga, reading, and skill development to prevent addiction.

As part of the event, a painting competition themed on tobacco-free living was organized by Team Stringmo, allowing students to showcase their creativity. Judicial Member of CAT Srinagar, M.S. Latif, and Administrative Member Prashant Kumar felicitated the winners and commended the District Health Society for its sustained efforts in health awareness and youth engagement.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Fatima Nissa, Nodal Officer NTCP, who acknowledged the contributions of all dignitaries, departments, and participants in making the campaign successful.
