Kurbathang, Oct 09: The Animal Husbandry Department in Kargil organized an awareness camp and vaccination drive for Brucellosis at the Veterinary Referral Hospital, Kurbathang, under the NADCP–FMD component of the Centrally Sponsored Livestock Health and Disease Control Programme.
Dr. Gulzar Hussain, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Kargil, presided over the event, emphasizing the critical role of vaccination and early disease reporting in preventing the spread of zoonotic infections. The program was attended by Dr. Ghulam Mohd, Dr. M. Ibrahim, hospital staff, and local farmers.
Addressing the participants, Dr. Hussain noted that the campaign was initiated from Drass and will extend to all blocks across the district. He highlighted the importance of creating awareness among farmers about diseases such as Brucellosis and Foot and Mouth Disease, which not only affect livestock productivity but also pose health risks to humans.
The initiative underscored the slogan, “Protect Your Livestock, Protect Your Family,” drawing attention to the adverse effects of Brucellosis, including infertility, abortion, and reduced milk yield in animals. Farmers were urged to actively participate in the camps to receive guidance and vaccination services from expert veterinarians.
The drive forms part of the department’s ongoing efforts to strengthen animal health management and promote community awareness about preventable livestock diseases in the region.
