Jammu, Oct 05: All government and private schools across the Jammu Division will remain closed on October 6 and 7 following a heavy rainfall warning issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) announced the precautionary measure on Sunday to ensure the safety of students and staff.
An official order issued by Dr Naseem Javaid Chowdhary (JKAS), Director of School Education Jammu, said the decision was taken after IMD predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts of the division over the next two days.
“To ensure the safety and security of students and staff, all Government and Private Schools across Jammu Division shall remain closed on 06-10-2025 (Monday) and 07-10-2025 (Tuesday),” the order stated.
The DSEJ also clarified that further updates regarding the reopening of schools will be communicated based on the evolving weather situation.
Meanwhile, the IMD advisory has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall between October 5 and 7 across Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur, Reasi, Ramban, Doda, and Kishtwar districts. The department also cautioned about the risk of flash floods, landslides, and waterlogging in low-lying areas, which could disrupt road connectivity and essential services.
Officials have urged residents, particularly those living near rivers, streams, and landslide-prone areas, to remain vigilant. Farmers have been advised to take preventive measures to safeguard crops and livestock.
The advisory also highlighted that traffic movement on hilly and mountainous roads may remain affected due to possible mudslides and rockfalls.
Authorities have mobilized disaster management teams, and people have been asked to avoid unnecessary travel during the forecast period. The IMD said the wet spell is expected to subside gradually after October 7.
