Jammu, Oct 05: National Conference president and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah was discharged from a private hospital in Srinagar on Sunday after recovering from an abdominal ailment.
The 87-year-old leader, who has served three terms as chief minister, had been admitted to the hospital on Tuesday after developing an abdominal infection. Doctors monitored his condition closely and, following steady improvement, declared him fit for discharge.
Officials said Abdullah’s health had significantly improved, but doctors have strongly advised him to rest for some time before resuming his routine political and public engagements.
The veteran politician, one of the most prominent faces of Jammu and Kashmir politics, underwent a kidney transplant in December 2014 and has since required periodic medical attention.
Abdullah’s family and party colleagues expressed relief at his recovery, with supporters extending prayers and good wishes for his continued health.
Abdullah, currently serving as a Lok Sabha member from Srinagar, has remained active in political affairs despite his age and health challenges. Known for his strong stance on the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood and safeguarding of Article 370 before its abrogation in 2019, he has often voiced concerns about the region’s political uncertainty.
Party leaders said his temporary break from routine activities will not affect NC’s functioning, as he continues to guide them on key issues. His recovery comes at a time when the political atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir is heating up with debates around elections, statehood, and regional representation.
