Kargil, Aug 17: The Partition Horrors Remembrance Day was observed with solemnity at Kargil today under the banner of the Ladakh Academy of Art, Culture & Languages (LAACL), Kargil.
The day was marked to pay tribute to the countless lives lost and the immense sufferings endured during the Partition of India in 1947.
The observance also sought to remind citizens, especially the younger generation, of the importance of peace, national unity, and brotherhood.
Speaking on the occasion, officials from LAACL highlighted the Government of India’s vision behind observing this day every year — to ensure that the sacrifices and sufferings of Partition are remembered, and to draw lessons for building a united and harmonious future.
The event featured a moving street play by RANTHAAG Theatre Club, Kargil, which vividly depicted the traumatic experiences of Partition, leaving the audience deeply touched.
A photo exhibition displaying rare archival images, maps, and glimpses of that era, along with a special message of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, further enriched the programme.
The commemoration served as a reminder that while history bears the scars of Partition, India must continue to uphold the values of peace, harmony, and togetherness.
