886 women across Ladakh own MSMEs, Centre tells Parliament

LEH: There are as many as 886 women-owned Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the union territory of Ladakh, the centre informed on Thursday.

This was stated by Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma, the Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, while replying to a question on MSME sector in Ladakh by Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, the Lok Sabha member from Ladakh.

“As many as 638 MSMEs registered on the Udyam in Leh district are women-owned while 248 MSMEs in Kargil district are women-owned.In total, there are as many as 886 women-owned MSMEs registered in the union territory of Ladakh,” said the minister, adding that the figures are latest by March 10.

Giving the details of women entrepreneurs benefitted in the UT of Ladakh under Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), the minister said that as many as 85 women entrepreneurs benefitted in the financial year 2020-21 with the margin money of Rs 3.34 Crore, 82 women entrepreneurs benefitted in the financial year 2021-22 with the margin money of Rs 2.81 Crore, while 27 women entrepreneurs have benefitted in the ongoing financial year 2022-23 with the margin money of Rs 0.93 Crore as on March 10.

The minister also detailed the number of guarantees approved for women under ‘Credit Guarantee Scheme for Micro and Small Enterprises’ (CGTMSE) in the UT of Ladakh.

He said that as many as 77 guarantees worth Rs 4.33 crore have been approved for women under the scheme in the ongoing financial year 2022-23 till the month of February.

68 women were benefitted in the financial year 2021-22 with the guarantees worth Rs 5.73 crores, 24 women were benefitted in the financial year 2020-21 with the guarantees worth Rs 1.22 crore while only 6 women benefitted in the financial year 2019-20 with the guarantees worth Rs 20 lakh.

The Ministry of MSME through its field offices network, implements various schemes/programmes for the promotion and development of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises sector in the Union Territory of Ladakh which inter alia include PMEGP, Micro and Small Enterprises-Cluster Development Programme, Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries (SFURTI), CGTMSE, a Scheme for Promotion of Innovation, Rural Industries and Entrepreneurship (ASPIRE), Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Programme (ESDP), National Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribe Hub (NSSH), said the minister.

“These schemes provide opportunities to grow economically as per regional and village level potentials and skills in Ladakh, by inter alia facilitating easy credit access, market access, technological support to MSMEs and developing entrepreneurship attitude/skill among the youth towards generating self-employment opportunities,” he added.
