New Delhi, Feb 13: The CJI’s office has received 8,639 complaints against sitting judges from 2016-2025, Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal informed Lok Sabha today.
The peak was 1,170 in 2024. Complaints against judges and high court chief justices are handled via the judiciary’s “in-house mechanism.”
Meghwal recalled Supreme Court resolutions from May 1997: “The Restatement of Values of Judicial Life” (judicial standards for SC/HC judges) and “In-house Procedure” (remedial actions for violations).
Under this, CJI handles complaints against SC judges and HC chief justices; HC chief justices manage those against HC judges.
CPGRAMS or other complaints are forwarded to the competent CJI or HC chief justice.
