Leh, Mar 14: The Administration of the Union Territory of Ladakh on Friday announced a major recruitment drive in the Ladakh Police, with 365 vacancies expected to be filled in the coming months. The announcement was made during a press conference addressed by Ashish Kundra, Chief Secretary of Ladakh, and Mukesh Singh, Director General of Police (DGP), Ladakh.
Addressing the media, Kundra said that the recruitment process will begin in April, with the official advertisement to be issued soon. The vacancies include a large number of posts in the constabulary and 35 posts for Sub-Inspectors.
DGP Mukesh Singh explained that the recruitment process will be conducted in multiple stages. Candidates will first undergo a Physical Standard Test (PST) to assess parameters such as height, chest, and weight. This will be followed by a Physical Efficiency Test (PET), which will include events such as running, long jump, and high jump. Both the PST and PET will be qualifying in nature. Candidates who clear these stages will then appear for a written examination, on the basis of which a merit list will be prepared. Final selection will be subject to police verification before appointment letters are issued.
To help aspirants prepare for the recruitment process, Ladakh Police will organize orientation camps between April 1 and April 15 at the District Police Lines in Leh and Kargil. These camps will provide guidance on physical preparation and the written examination syllabus, which will include general knowledge, reasoning, and analytical and mathematical ability. Interested youth will be able to register for the camps through designated nodal officers.
Chief Secretary Kundra also highlighted the administration’s broader efforts to accelerate recruitment across government departments following directions from the newly appointed Lieutenant Governor. He stated that since 2021, a total of 3,179 recruitments have been completed in Ladakh, while appointment letters for another 874 candidates are ready to be issued. In addition, 697 recruitments are currently in the pipeline, including 473 graduate-level posts for which examinations are scheduled in April and 224 posts being filled through the Union Public Service Commission.
Kundra added that around 760 additional vacancies will also be processed in different departments in the coming months, while 2,017 employees have already received promotions through Departmental Promotion Committees.
Appealing for a positive environment during the upcoming tourist season, Kundra urged local organisations to avoid protests that could impact Ladakh’s economy. He emphasised that the administration remains committed to creating employment opportunities for the youth and accelerating recruitment processes across departments.
