JAMMU, JUNE 18: Three women were injured after bear attacks in two villages of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Thursday, officials said.
The incidents occurred in the Shamer and Gadar hamlets of the Mandi area in the border district.
According to officials at the District Hospital Poonch, two of the injured women were brought from Mandi for treatment, while the third victim is receiving medical care locally.
One of the injured women, Nazia Kausar, suffered severe injuries, including a serious eye injury, and is reported to be in critical condition. Doctors have decided to refer her to Government Medical College Hospital, Rajouri, for specialized treatment.
The second woman admitted to the district hospital is stated to be stable and undergoing treatment. Details about the third victim’s condition were not immediately available.
The attacks have sparked concern among local residents, who say encounters with bears have become increasingly frequent in the region.
Mohammad Rafiq, a resident of Tatri village in the Bahadur area, urged the district administration to provide support to the affected families and implement measures to prevent future wildlife attacks.
“Similar incidents have occurred in the past, but the issue remains unresolved. We appeal to the administration to assist the victims and take effective steps to address the recurring threat,” Rafiq said.
Authorities said medical assistance is being provided to all the injured women and that Nazia Kausar’s condition is being closely monitored.
