Jammu, Feb 12: Jammu and Kashmir has razed 1,425 illegal structures—including 1,194 residential and 231 commercial—since the National Conference-led government formed in October 2024, CM Omar Abdullah informed the Assembly Thursday.
In a written reply to PDP MLA Mir Mohammad Fayaz, Abdullah confirmed the demolition of journalist Arfaz Ahmad Daing’s Jammu house by Jammu Development Authority on Nov 27, 2025. “Daing stated he had no connection to the land. Action followed due verification under J-K Public Premises Act, 1988, and other laws,” he said.
Srinagar topped with 1,133 demolitions (1,014 residential, 119 commercial) by Lake Conservation Authority, SMC, and SDA. Jammu: 237 (162 residential, 75 commercial); Ramban: 19 (NHAI); Anantnag: 10 (Pahalgam DA); others minimal.
Abdullah stressed no unauthorized builds are allowed; drives follow notices, sealing under COBO Act, 1988, with time for compliance. Delays occur due to legal hurdles, police shortages, or night constructions.
