Zanskar, Apr 9: The Kargil Police on Wednesday launched a five-day orientation programme for Sub-Inspector and Constable recruitment aspirants in Zanskar Sub-Division, with 157 candidates attending the opening session at the Sports Stadium near TFC.
A notable predominance of women aspirants marked the first day, with 90 women among the participants, outnumbering 67 male candidates. Officials described this as reflective of a growing interest among young women in the region to join the police force. The overall turnout is expected to increase in the coming days.
The programme is being conducted by the Police Station Zanskar under the directions of the Senior Superintendent of Police, Kargil, and is aimed at equipping local youth with the physical preparedness required for the recruitment process.
The orientation focuses on structured physical training designed to build stamina, improve fitness levels, and familiarise aspirants with the demands of recruitment trials. Trainers are also providing guidance and motivation to help candidates align their preparation with prescribed standards.
Police officials said the initiative reflects continued efforts to engage local youth and support them in pursuing careers in policing, particularly in remote areas such as Zanskar where access to training facilities remains limited.
The physical training component will continue for five days. Details regarding a separate orientation for the written examination will be communicated in due course, officials added.
