Jammu, Dec 10: A youth wanted by Punjab Police in a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been arrested in Kathua district and handed over to a police team from Mohali.
Police said Sajjad Malik, a resident of Lohai Malhar, was traced to the Billawar area of Kathua and later handed over to officers from Dera Bassi police station, where he is wanted in a case involving the alleged kidnapping of a 16-year-old girl belonging to a neighbouring family. The case was registered under Section 137(2) (kidnapping) and Section 7 of the POCSO Act, and Jammu and Kashmir Police had conducted multiple raids within and outside the Union Territory, including in Delhi, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, before finally arresting him from Machhedi village in Billawar.
In a separate operation, Jammu and Kashmir Police assisted West Bengal Police in arresting a 32-year-old Haryana resident, identified as Sapat from the Mewat area, from Khellani in Doda district. He is accused of involvement in several ATM thefts in West Bengal’s Howrah area, with the stolen amount totalling around Rs 34 lakh, and was handed over to the visiting team from West Bengal after completion of legal formalities.
