‘Arithmetic drives skills towards reasoning, critical thinking’
Jammu, Oct 05: Stressing that the future of Jammu and Kashmir lies in the hands of its youth, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday said young people have the mission of transforming both J&K and the nation, and with dedication, they can accomplish it. He was speaking while felicitating the winners of the ALOHA State Level Arithmetic Operations Contest at the University of Kashmir, Srinagar.
The event saw the participation of more than 1,500 students from across J&K. The Lieutenant Governor congratulated the children for their exceptional arithmetic skills and praised ALOHA for creating a platform that helps students unlock their true potential.
“Growth of J&K is directly linked with the growth of youth. They have a mission of transforming J&K and the nation. With resolve and dedication, they can complete this mission. We will ensure they have the right environment to become the most talented scholars, scientists and innovators,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
The Lieutenant Governor, in his address, congratulated all the participating children for their exceptional Arithmetic skills. He appreciated ALOHA for providing the children with an exciting opportunity to unlock their true potential.
“Arithmetic operations are not merely numerical calculations. They are foundations to skills like problem solving, critical thinking and reasoning. It has far-reaching implications and drives young mind towards innovation, science, and technology. It also serves as a reminder to teachers that the ultimate purpose of education is not the pursuit of marks, certificates or accolades, but the responsibility of building the nation’s future,” the Lieutenant Governor said
The Lieutenant Governor called upon the young generation to chart their own path and make conscious choices to achieve new goals.
“In an unpredictable world, innovation can’t be achieved by following the beaten track. Young generation should be more entrepreneurial, adventurous, creative and follow the outside-of-the- box approach,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor, in his addresses, also called for collective efforts to transform school campuses as hubs of curiosity and innovation. He said education should be a medium for independent research and ideas, with classrooms must serve as launchpads for dreams and aspirations.
Prof. Nilofer Khan, Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir; Loh Mun Sung, Founder, ALOHA International; Ms. Kiran Motwani, Director, ALOHA International; Mubashir Aslam Wafai, Director ALOHA J&K; senior officials from Police and Civil Administration, heads of educational institutions, teachers and students attended the felicitation ceremony.
The Lieutenant Governor also highlighted various initiatives taken by the administration to nurture youth talent in Jammu and Kashmir, including enhanced skill development programs, scholarships, and incubation centers for start-ups.
He said the government is committed to bridging the gap between education and employability by aligning academic learning with industry requirements. Stressing on the role of technology, Sinha urged students to embrace digital tools and emerging fields such as artificial intelligence and data sciences. He said the collective energy of the youth would shape a progressive J&K, capable of contributing significantly to the growth story of the nation.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Civil Society Forum Kashmir for Health led by Omar Shafi Trumboo today called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and put forth various important issues to strengthen the fight against drug menace in Jammu Kashmir.
Additionally, a public delegation led by Nazir Ahmad Khan, former DDC Chairman Budgam called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today.
The delegation submitted a memorandum of demands highlighting wide range of development issues of Budgam.
