LEH: Amid the intensifying cold wave sweeping across Ladakh, the Chief Education Officer, Leh, has announced winter vacations for schools from 8 December 2025 for Classes up to 8th Class in Nyoma and Durbuk zones, and from 15 December 2025 for all schools across Leh district. The decision follows directions from the Deputy Commissioner, CEO, LAHDC Leh, in response to the severe drop in temperature and freezing conditions affecting students.
The order instructs all Government and Private schools in Nyoma and Durbuk zones to suspend classes up to Class 8th starting 8th of December.
One week later, from 15 December, the winter vacation will begin for every school in the district, covering all classes and zones.
With winter tightening its grip and sub-zero temperatures becoming routine, the administration has moved proactively to prioritize the safety and well-being of schoolchildren.
The annual winter closure marks the beginning of Ladakh’s long cold season, during which educational institutions remain shut until conditions improve in spring.
