Leh, July 17: The newly appointed Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi after his swearing-in ceremony scheduled on July 18 (Friday).
He is the first political leader to hold the position since Ladakh was carved out of Jammu and Kashmir in 2019.
Ahead of his formal installation, he was expected to hold consultations with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
While speaking to The Earth News Scribe regarding his meeting PM Modi, newly appointed Ladakh LG said that he is scheduled to PM after taking the Oath. “Couldn’t had the opportunity of meeting today, but I am scheduled to call on the honourable PM Modi after taking the Oath as the LG.”
Gupta, a seasoned political leader with a background as Speaker of the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and Deputy Chief Minister, was scheduled to travel to New Delhi today, but he travelled to Leh in the Thursday afternoon.
Gupta’s appointment arrives at a time when regional demands for constitutional safeguards and statehood have regained momentum. Groups like the Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance have been advocating for inclusion under the Sixth Schedule, citing the need to protect Ladakh’s cultural and environmental heritage.
His past engagement with regional concerns has raised expectations among local stakeholders that dialogue and political outreach will intensify under his leadership.
