NEW DELHI: Activist Sonam Wangchuk walked free from Jodhpur Central Jail Saturday after nearly six months under NSA detention, with wife Geetanjali J Angmo calling it the end of exhausting family trials.
In an emotional X post, Angmo described informing him of release via a final jail letter, thanking Jodhpur supporters. “My ordeal of making two trips a week… for just a 60-minute meeting over the past five months has finally ended.”
Wangchuk, 59, was arrested September 26 amid Ladakh protests for statehood and Sixth Schedule protections by Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance.
The Centre revoked detention to promote “peace, stability and mutual trust,” facilitating stakeholder dialogue; he was released around 1:30 pm with Angmo present, days before a Supreme Court hearing on her petition.
Wangchuk reaffirmed commitment to Ladakh’s “protection, dignity, and well-being” through unity and dialogue.
