New Delhi, October 6: The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Tuesday welcomed the Jammu and Kashmir administration’s action against Bangladeshi nationals allegedly staying illegally in the Union Territory.
VHP national spokesperson Vinod Bansal thanked J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, security forces and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the action and urged other States to take similar steps.
In a post on X, Bansal said the measures would strengthen the country from economic, social, cultural and security perspectives.
The comments came after 150 Bangladeshi nationals allegedly staying illegally in Jammu and Kashmir were shifted to West Bengal on Monday as part of the deportation process.
According to officials, an administration-led survey conducted with the assistance of the Jammu and Kashmir Police identified around 600 Bangladeshi nationals allegedly residing illegally in different parts of the Kashmir Valley.
The individuals were reportedly kept at a facility managed by Srinagar Police before being transported to Bagdogra for further deportation procedures.
Officials said a batch of 150 people was flown to Bagdogra on a special Indian Air Force aircraft on Monday and subsequently handed over to Border Security Force (BSF) personnel.
Another batch of around 150 Bangladeshi nationals is scheduled to be deported on October 7, officials said.
The development follows the Union Home Ministry’s constitution of a High-Level Committee on Demographic Change (HLCDC) to identify illegal immigrants residing in border areas.
The administration’s action has drawn political and public attention, with the authorities continuing the process of identifying and verifying individuals suspected of residing in the Union Territory without valid documentation.
