KARGIL: The Department of Botany, University of Ladakh, Kargil Campus, successfully organized a two-day online workshop titled “Hands-on Reference Management Softwares”, with a special focus on EndNote and Mendeley.
The session began with a warm welcome address and a detailed briefing on the objectives, structure, and outcomes of the workshop by Dr. Imtiyaz Hussain, Department of Botany, University of Ladakh. Total 62 participants from different Universities of India and other parts of the world joined.
The inaugural session was graced by Dr. Mehboob Ali, In-Charge Administration, University of Ladakh, Kargil Campus, who addressed the gathering and appreciated the Department of Botany for organizing such a timely and skill-based workshop in enhancing research quality, ensuring academic integrity, and improving publication efficiency.
Although the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Saket Kushwaha, could not be present due to prior commitments, the Department expressed sincere gratitude for his continued encouragement and institutional support in promoting academic excellence and research-oriented initiatives at the University of Ladakh.
Dr. Mohd. Shahnawaz, Assistant Professor of Botany, served as the lead trainer, delivering highly interactive, practical sessions. On day one, participants learned to navigate the EndNote interface, import bibliographic data, and manage reference libraries. The session included live demonstrations on in-text citations and formatting manuscripts using various styles.
On second day, the focus shifted to Mendeley’s research workflow, including PDF annotation and the use of plug-ins for automated bibliography generation. The day concluded with a comparative analysis of both platforms.
The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Shahi Kant Singh. Participants praised the university’s efforts in promoting digital literacy and research excellence.
The Department of Botany reaffirmed its dedication to hosting future technology-enabled programs to further strengthen the university’s research culture.
