LEH: The Department of Forensic Science, University of Ladakh, in collaboration with Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India), organised a workshop on “Behavioural Forensics” at Leh Campus.

This event was aimed to enhance understanding of the psychological dimensions of forensic science among university students and faculty members.

The session was graced by the presence of Prof. Saket Kushwaha, Vice-Chancellor, University of Ladakh, who formally welcomed the distinguished guests by felicitating them with traditional khataks, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the region.

The Vice-Chancellor highlighted the growing importance of behavioural analysis in contemporary forensic investigations and appreciated the collaborative initiative between the University of Ladakh and Rashtriya Raksha University. He also informed the gathering about the upcoming internship opportunity for students of M.Sc. Forensic Science, University of Ladakh, at Rashtriya Raksha University, Gandhinagar, Gujarat campus, emphasizing its significance for practical exposure and academic enrichment.

The main speaker for the workshop was Dr. Mahesh A. Tripathi, Director, Rashtriya Raksha University, J& K and Ladakh Campus, who was accompanied by Aman Thakur, Research Officer (Criminal Psychologist). The programme commenced with the National Anthem, setting a solemn and respectful tone for the event.

Dr. Tripathi delivered an insightful lecture on behavioural forensics, focusing on various psychological theories, personality traits, and behavioural patterns relevant to criminal profiling and forensic investigations. He elaborated on the role of psychological assessment in understanding criminal behaviour and supporting forensic and investigative processes.

Faculty members and students of Forensic Science Department of the Kargil Campus also joined the workshop through online mode, ensuring wider academic participation across campuses. The hybrid format enabled meaningful engagement and interaction among participants.

The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from both students and faculty members and was followed by an interactive question-and-answer session, during which participants raised insightful queries.

The speaker addressed the questions with clarity and depth, making the session highly informative and engaging.

The programme was moderated by Zerish Firdous and Saqifa Khan, Assistant Professor, Department of Forensic Science. The introduction of the guests was delivered by Saqifa Khan, and the session concluded with a formal vote of thanks presented by Zerish Firdous, expressing gratitude to the dignitaries, speakers, university administration, and participants for their support and cooperation.

Overall, the workshop proved to be a valuable academic initiative, strengthening institutional collaboration and enhancing awareness of behavioural forensics among students and faculty members of the University of Ladakh.

Recently, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Rashtriya Raksha University and University of Ladakh which is expected to pave the way for long term academic and institutional collaboration.
