Jammu, Jan 7: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will conduct a comprehensive high-level review of the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday in New Delhi, with participation from Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, paramilitary forces, intelligence agencies, and top civil and police administration officers from the Union Territory.
This marks the first major security assessment for Jammu and Kashmir in 2026 and comes at a crucial time when security forces have intensified search operations across mountainous and remote areas of the Jammu region to track down and neutralize terrorists, including foreign militants operating in the area.
According to officials, the high-level meeting will focus on formulating a comprehensive strategy to eliminate terrorists hiding in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir while ensuring zero infiltration across the borders. The discussion will cover multiple security-related challenges facing the Union Territory.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will lead the Jammu and Kashmir delegation, accompanied by the territory’s top administrative and security brass including Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Home Secretary Chandraker Bharti, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, and Intelligence Chief Nitish Kumar, among other senior officials.
From the central government side, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan will attend the meeting along with the heads of all paramilitary forces and intelligence agencies, indicating the high priority being accorded to the security review.
Senior officers are expected to provide detailed briefings to the Home Minister on various aspects of the current security scenario, including the comprehensive measures implemented during the winter months to prevent infiltration along the borders with Pakistan and ongoing operations to eliminate terrorists hiding in the mountainous terrain of Jammu and Kashmir.
Over the past several months, security forces have engaged terrorists in multiple gun battles across the upper reaches of Kishtwar, Doda, Udhampur, and other districts in the Jammu region. The operations have been part of a sustained counter-terrorism effort to flush out militants from their hideouts in difficult terrain.
Additionally, security forces have successfully thwarted several infiltration attempts by terrorists along the borders with Pakistan, demonstrating heightened vigilance and effective border management protocols.
Despite these successes, intelligence reports suggest that terrorists remain positioned on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB), waiting for opportunities to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir. These militants are believed to be receiving support from the Pakistan army and other agencies operating across the border.
Security forces have achieved zero infiltration during the ongoing winter season—a significant accomplishment given the challenging terrain and weather conditions. Sources indicated that maintaining this zero-infiltration status remains a top priority, and the upcoming review meeting will likely discuss strategies to sustain this achievement as conditions change with the approaching spring season.
The meeting is expected to result in refined tactical approaches and enhanced coordination mechanisms to address evolving security challenges in the Union Territory.
