Mendhar/Jammu, Dec 29: Security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir remained on alert on Monday after an unidentified drone was recovered from a forward area of Poonch district, raising fresh security concerns along the border belt.
Official sources said the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police received specific information about an abandoned drone lying in an open field at village Gohled in the Mendhar sector. Acting swiftly on the input, a police team rushed to the spot and secured the drone.
The device was found intact and has been taken into custody for technical examination. Police have launched an investigation to determine its origin and purpose, while efforts are underway to trace the person or group behind its movement.
In a separate development, security forces recovered a magazine of an AK-series rifle along with seven live rounds during a search operation in the Sudhmahadev area of Chenani in Udhampur district. Officials said the ammunition was found in an open field, and no arrests were made in connection with the recovery.
Meanwhile, an aircraft-shaped balloon bearing the marking “PIA” was seized from an agricultural field in the border village of Gurah Manhasa in the Pragwal area of the Akhnoor sector earlier in the day. Initial assessment suggests the balloon may have drifted across the border due to strong winds.
Security agencies are examining all three recoveries, and surveillance has been tightened in the affected areas as a precautionary measure.
